French ATC industrial action risk this week

French air traffic control DSNA has confirmed the imminent risk of two-day industrial action, starting 8 April at 0400 GMT until 10 April 0400.

STRIKE UPDATE

“Foreseen disruptions, if conciliation should fail, have been outlined during a conference call with France’s DSNA,” said Eurocontrol, Europe’s Network Manager. “They are significant with a risk of having only the minimum service over the two days of the strike at a lot of air traffic control centres, and even a risk of closure of air traffic services at some airports.”

It said this may only affect the night-time operations of airports where a minimum service is required, but also potentially during the day at those where a minimum service is not required.

Consequently, airlines have been asked to prepare on Wednesday April 8 (applicable from April 8 4:00 GMT to April 9 4:00 GMT ) to reduce their flights programmes

– by 40% globally for the three Paris’ airports (Paris-CDG, Paris-Orly, Paris-Beauvais),
– by 40% at Lyon, Nice, Marseille, Toulouse, Bordeaux and Nantes;

And on Thursday April 9 (applicable from April 9 4:00 GMT to April 10 4:00 GMT), prepare to reduce flights programmes

– by 50% globally for the three Paris’ airports (Paris-CDG, Paris-Orly, Paris-Beauvais),
– by 50% at Lyon, Nice, Marseille, Toulouse, Bordeaux and Nantes.

French overseas territories are not affected by these measures although some of Corsica’s airports may be affected.

The main air traffic controllers’ union, the SNCTA, has also urged industrial action on April 16-18 and April 29 to May 2. They are calling for talks over working practices and retirement age, currently set at 59 for air traffic controllers.

    We are due to fly to Tenerife via easyjet on 2nd May. When it says strike between 29/04/15 and 02/05/15 does this mean ends at 5am on 2nd May so we should be OK ? I see Monarch re-routed their flights, is this something that can be done by easyjet/ryanair ?
