Aviation leaders from more than 130 countries participate in this year’s World ATM Congress

Airline Industry: What is IOSA? The International Air Transport Association Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) registry is the global industry standard for airline operational safety management. Developed in cooperation with the world’s largest airlines and regulators (including FAA, CASA, JAA, Transport Canada) it has since its 2003 launch represented industry best practice in all aspects of operational safety. Registration is valid for two years and since 2006, IOSA has been a condition of IATA membership. Last month, IATA went further and launched the IATA Standard Safety Assessment (ISSA) for airlines that are not IOSA-eligible. Like IOSA, ISSA is a voluntary safety audit programme but was created primarily for airlines that operate aircraft which have a lower maximum take-off weight (MTOW) than the 5,700 kg (12,566 lbs.) threshold for participation in IOSA. IATA also last year introduced the Enhanced IOSA for airlines renewing their audits which introduces ongoing internal monitoring systems through the two-year audit cycle, moving IOSA from a once-every-two-year snapshot to a continuous management process.
