Six injured in accident at Rome airport

Six people were injured in an accident at Rome’s Fiumicino airport on Saturday night when an ATR 72 aircraft left the runway during landing.

The ATR-72 turboprop operated by Romania’s Carpatair airline on behalf of Italian flag-carrier Alitalia landed in strong winds at Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci airport.

Two of the injured were seriously injured. Forty-six passengers and four crew members were on board when the accident occurred.

The aircraft, which reportedly failed in its attempt to land on runway 3, rolled off and tilted to the right wing with its landing-gear collapsed.

Italy’s flight safety agency has launched an investigation into the accident.
